The Philippines in the American Imaginary: 1900-1946

By Joseph Palis

Retired professor of geography and economics, Dr. David Kummer is giving a talk on the early images of Filipinos in the American popular magazines and publications. The idea of the Philippines as a territorial conquest and as an exotic land proved irresistible for the United States after Spain relinquished the archipelago. Stereotyped images and descriptions of the archipelago and its people abound in early publications that represented the imperial designs and desires of the United States.

The talk is going to be on October 31, 2018, Wednesday, 11:30am at Pavilion 2 Pantry.
