The University of the
Philippines-Diliman, through the UP Department of Geography, seeks to renew its
partnership with Université Paul-Valéry Montpellier III (UPVM) at Montpellier,
Béziers, France, for an academic scholarship program for faculty and students.
On May 16, 2019, representatives from
the Department of Geography and Land Planning, University of Saint Paul-Valery Montpellier
III met with the faculty members of the UP Department of Geography to discuss
the renewal of a standing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two
institutions.
UP Diliman Office of
International Linkages (UPD-OIL) representative Lorenzo Alvendia mediated
between the two departments, with Mr. Alvendia initiating the identification
and exploration of areas of cooperation linking the departments.
The cooperation agreement between the
Department and UPVM started last 2005, and was renewed last 2010. Led by Dr. Frédéric
Leone, the main objectives of the renewal of the UPD-UPVM collaboration was (1)
to specify common areas of study and research issues on heritage, disaster risk,
and governance, and (2) to work together with other potential partners in a
specified field site area of interest.
Renewal of the agreement will open
opportunities for collaborative teaching and research engagements as well as
academic scholarships for participating students and faculty from their
respective partner-institutions.
