Department of Geography graduate faculty members Drs. Kristian Saguin, Joseph Palis and Jake Cadag shared insights, tips and anecdotes on how to prepare materials for publication last November 9, Friday, at the Pavilion Pantry.
The roundtable discussion ranged from the identification of appropriate journals for publication, their rankings and impact factors, to the encouragement to publish in other outlets with a specific core audience. the resource speakers also mentioned that getting a rejection from journals can be used as an opportunity for the assessment and evaluation of the article and to address critiques from reviewers for a much stronger and more cogently-written arguments in the manuscript.
During the open forum, the resource speakers who drew from their own particular experiences, promoted the value of collaborative writing, and what language to use when writing to a varied group of readers. Also, caveats against 'predatory' journals were likewise discussed in the ensuing Q&A.
