UPD Geography and Université Paul-Valéry seeks to renew their MOU

The University of the Philippines-Diliman, through the UP Department of Geography, seeks to renew its partnership with Université Paul-Valéry Montpellier III (UPVM) at Montpellier, Béziers, France, for an academic scholarship program for faculty and students.

On May 16, 2019, representatives from the Department of Geography and Land Planning, University of Saint Paul-Valery Montpellier III met with the faculty members of the UP Department of Geography to discuss the renewal of a standing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two institutions.  

UP Diliman Office of International Linkages (UPD-OIL) representative Lorenzo Alvendia mediated between the two departments, with Mr. Alvendia initiating the identification and exploration of areas of cooperation linking the departments.

The cooperation agreement between the Department and UPVM started last 2005, and was renewed last 2010. Led by Dr. Frédéric Leone, the main objectives of the renewal of the UPD-UPVM collaboration was (1) to specify common areas of study and research issues on heritage, disaster risk, and governance, and (2) to work together with other potential partners in a specified field site area of interest.

Renewal of the agreement will open opportunities for collaborative teaching and research engagements as well as academic scholarships for participating students and faculty from their respective partner-institutions.
