Oscar Wilde once remarked: "The whole of Japan is a pure invention. There is no such country, there are no such people. The Japanese people are simply a mode of style, an exquisite fancy of art."
While Wilde meant that Japan exists in the imagination, what is Japan to people: Myth or reality? Verity or artifice? Object or method?
The UP Department of Geography's Webbynar series presents geography alumnus Carlos Ortiz from The Japan Foundation, Manila, who will give a presentation entitled Japan as an Imagined Landscape and Reality: A Geographer's Checklist for Beginners on Saturday, 12 March 2022 at 2:00PM (GMT +8).
Carlos Ortiz works as the Program Coordinator for Japanese Studies and Intellectual Exchange. He is in charge of several projects to strengthen ties between Japan and the Philippines through cultural exchange and dialogues.
