Geography Webbynar #2 (2021-2022) - Lisa Marshall on the ever-evolving nuclear energy landscape

As we enter the second decade of the 21st century, the nuclear energy landscape is ever evolving. Through technological advancement, and links to such immense projects as climate change mitigation and infrastructure revitalization, the industry is reproducing its space in real and discursive ways. This presentation will map this development and its importance.

For the 9th Geography Webbynar talk for 2021, the UP Department of Geography welcomes Lisa Marshall from North Carolina State University who will give a talk entitled The second modern nuclear renaissance in the making? Positioning nuclear, climate change, and infrastructure this Friday, 26 November at 7:00PM (PHT) | 6:00AM EST.



Lisa Marshall is the inaugural director of the Outreach, Retention & Engagement Program as well as Lecturer and Adviser at the Nuclear Engineering Department at NC State University. She is the chair of the NCSU Association of Women Faculty and the Associate Director of the China Engineering Study Abroad Program. Lisa holds a master’s degree in Geography with a specialization in Energy Geography from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She holds a graduate certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and is completing her PhD in Higher Education specializing in Engineering Education from North Carolina State University. She currently holds executive positions in the American Nuclear Society (ANS), the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) & the American Association of Geographers (AAG). She is the recipient of 2020 ANS Young Members Advancement Award, 2020 NC State Engineering Champion for Women Award, 2019 NC State Outstanding Engagement Award, 2009 ANS Landis Public Communications & Education Award and was inducted into Sigma Xi, a scientific research society.

Geography Webbynar #4 (2020-2021): Laura Brewington on ecological security and climate change in the Pacific

We will announce the new date of the webinar talk.

For the fourth Geography Webbynar this semester, the UP Department of Geography cordially welcomes Dr Laura Brewington from The East-West Center at the University of Hawai'i as resource speaker. Dr Brewington's talk -- Climate Change and Ecological Security in the Pacific Islands is culled from various research and consultative meetings that she participated in the Pacific islands.
